Preschool and Early Elementary aventuras

My preschool and elementary classes are fun, active sessions that allow kids, and their caregivers, to hear and try out the Spanish language in a non-threatening environment, using storytelling, songs, movement and sign-language.

We use relevant, seasonally and age-appropriate contexts for language and interact with authentic cultural materials in each class.

My intention is that the language can be easily incorporated into your daily activities at home: when out and about, observing what is around us, listening to music and reading together.

My hope is that ‘aventureros’ will start to gain an appreciation for the many, unique Hispanic cultures and traditions around the world. I encourage them, as global citizens, to reflect upon how people’s traditions and customs are similar and different to our own.

• Class includes a weekly follow-up communication and online and/or printable materials, for language practice and cultural exploration at home

• Suggested donation $20 for the 10 week session*

• for the Iowa International Center, to further their work in welcoming and providing educational, linguistic and cultural resources to new Iowans in need.

Important notes:

• All classes taught in a Spanish immersion environment, using special CI strategies, sign language used to faciliate comprehension. English is used for clarification or cultural explanation, as necessary

• I encourage consistent attendance! My classes are structured to build upon on one another, and we learn language best through consistent, progressive exposure to the language.

• I actively involve parents and caregivers in our learning time! I love it when caregivers attend classes with students, where possible, and be actively involved in their aventuras.

• I empower parents and caregivers to use the language and explore the cultures at home! Language comes alive when it is regularly applied outside the classroom and in the context of its cultures! I will send materials home and send a weekly follow-up communication that reflects our learning activities and provides activities and resources to extend and embed our aventuras at home.

• Younger siblings under the age of 3 are always welcome in our classroom!

• I will respect and care for all students and the space we learn in. Please share any specific requests or concerns with me that will allow me to connect with and respect your child’s learning style, personality and unique heritage.
