back-to-school saludos desde Jersey

la vuelta al cole (el colegio) or la vuelta a clases = back to school

¡Hola a todos!

I hope this finds you all refreshed and sanos y seguros (safe and well) as we start another school year.

I am sorry to not have sent my fall class offerings sooner, but change has been afoot this last month! In August, I came back to Great Britain to be nearer family, and have decided to stay a while to enjoy this special time together and explore new educational opportunities this side of the pond for this academic year.

So - what does this mean?

………I will be still be dropping into your inbox regularly with seasonally appropriate materials and fun and engaging learning materials for your aventureros

………..I can’t wait to re-connect with familiar faces online and meet new amigos in person this side of the pond… see below for options!

……….I continue to be committed to providing high quality, engaging instruction and meaningful at-home materials with you - wherever I am!

……..I will be going on my own Spanish aventuras by connectiong with native speakers and local educators, as well as taking classes at a language institute in Zaragoza. I seek these cultural and linguistic aventuras to become a better teacher and more sensitive and wise global citizen! I will share my personal Spanish aventuras with you as I learn and grow.

My favourite things del momento

Change, while healthy and often needed, can also be stressful and unsettling. How do you handle the different emotions that you and/or your children are feeling during moments of change or transition? I am resolved to be patient and deliberate as I interact with the people and experiences in my day, perhaps seeking to notice things that I may otherwise miss in the rush to execute life. To take one day at a time - un paso a la vez. To live in the moment - vivir el momento. To breath - respirar. What a beautiful season to make this resolution!

Witnessing the beautiful changes in nature at this time of year…whether it’s fall or autumn for you, it’s all beautiful!

……I love celebrating this season using Carolina Gomez’s songs for the season!

Marveling in the majestic Monarch butterfly and its epic journey to Mexico

Switching my hot chocolate or pumpkin spice latté for a yummy latino alternative, many of which date back to prehispanic, indigenous civilizations. ¡Qué rico!

….el atole: a creamy, corn flour base with tones of vanilla and cinnamon.

el champurrado: a chocolatey variation of el atole ….

Encouraging my kids to consider other traditions outside our own…we travel to Latin America to understand the annual Día de Muertos. How is it similiar and different to our Halloween traditions?

…..honor your loved ones with a shoebox altar

¡Disfruta de la temporada! Enjoy the season!

Hasta pronto,

Sarah :-)
