¡A comer!

Let’s eat!

We are reading, singing and storytelling about different foods!

  • We express our likes & dislikes using (no) me gusta(n)…and our ‘magic words’!

  • We explore familiar foods that originated in Latin America;

  • We organize foods by group & color, then dance the ‘Conga de las frutas’;

  • We learn about a chilled Spanish soup called el gazpacho;

  • We play a Peruvian coin throwing game called ‘el sapo’ (…scroll down for more aventuras in Peru);

  • We celebrate how food often brings families together!

    ¡Qué aproveche! ¡Buen provecho! ¡Buen apetito!

Cultural Focus - Perú

While learning a popular children’s poem, Manzanita del Perú (Little Apple from Perú), we took a quick trip to South America! Perú has a rich indigenous history, varied landscapes and unique traditions. This beautiful country boasts the largest mountain chain in the world, la Cordillera de los Andes; stunning Lake Titicaca; majestic Machu Picchu, bustling Lima; beautiful beaches; verdant agricultural areas and llanuras…there’s a lot to take in!

Explore Perú at home - videos & books

Watch a video of Peru’s incredible natural wonders and diverse landscapes!

Here’s an educational video for kids.

Our poem, Manzanita del Perú (Little Apple from Perú), invites kids to say their age or their name.

Play el sapo (the toad) - an ancient game where you try to aim coins into the open mouth of a toad to score points!

My favorite children’s books about Perú:

¡Buen viaje! Have a good trip!
